No offence, but a lot of cars that sell really well are just average cars that end up looking drab and dated and become cheap old bangers instead of classics. The boxy old Ford Escorts of the 1980s were number one sellers in Britain, but no one wants them now. When I was in sixth-form college my friend gave me lifts in his grandad's 1986 Escort, and it was such a piece of crap (and it was beige!), he was probably glad to see the back of it. Even my other friend's 1992 Rover 200 was nicer.
Although I'd much rather drive a Tempo everyday than some of these tiny little tin cans (Yugo, Geo Metro, Festiva, 2CV, Renault 5).

what about the Ford Tempo
How does the Tempo deserve to be there? It was a sales phenomenon in its time, was a very innovative and modern car and even puts down modern cars in areas such as fuel economy and features like all wheel drive.
As for the poll, I'd say the Pacer.

I voted for the 2cv (late, of course). Actually I like the Fiat 500 just as much, but I'm too tall ... I have to have the sunroof open. Works fine on Corfu, where I rented one, but not so practical in the British climate

I think the Dodge Omni should be listed alongside the Geo Metro, Ford Pinto, Yugo, and AMC Pacer

Yes it rusts fast, but that's like many of cars of the 70s.

GMs had automatic seatbelts too. The problem was they were not motorized and people thought it was a regular seatbelt. You know those cars with the seatbelts mounted on the doors? Well, they're suppose to be buckled in all the time so when you open the door, you just slide in and shut the door. It's very awkward. If the door popped open in and accident, you're pretty much screwed.
