Anyway, I look foward to seeing these!

Probably. As I said, there was an official video release of Secret Diary (because I bought that before buying the DVD's), so thats probably where the DVD copy came from, but as for Growing Pains, I don't know. As far as I know, that was never officially released on video. Doesn't look like it's been recorded off the TV anyway.

If Secret Diary and Growing Pains were taped off the TV when they were first shown way back in the 80s, the videos would have been ancient. I'll think about it.

As you can/will see from the pics, the Secret Diary and Growng Pains aren't brilliant, but I think they are taken from a video (there was certainly an official video release of the Secret Diary). The Cappuccino Years is better quality, this may have been taken from the original TV showing.

I also saw a website that sold DVD recordings of old/obscure British TV shows (that aren't likely to be released on DVD), I think they were selling them for more than that though. Was the quality of your DVD any good? In the past I've bought homemade DVDs (not pirate copies or anything, just compilations of TV programs that aren't officially sold on DVD) off ebay, but the quality of the recording wasn't that great (partly because they've probably been transferred from old videos, but some DVD-recorders aren't that great). Although as long as it's watchable it's fine I guess.

The Cappuccino Years series actually has the same cars, Mole has a D reg Montego, Mr Braithwaite has a Volvo 960 and Pandora has a Saab 900 convertible. We don't actually see what Scruton drives, but Moles father drives a Mk2 Escort estate.

Yes, I think they are worth seeking out. Ebay currenty has the three series at the moment, £10 for the Cappuccino years and £8 each for the Secret Diary and Growing Pains. I got mine in one auction for £15.

In the books, Mole drove a Montego in Cappuccino Years (very fitting), and Pandora's very middle class father always drove Volvos. When she becomes a Labour MP in Cappuccino Years, Pandora drives various sports cars like Saabs and Mercs. And Mole's hated headmaster Mr Scruton drives a Ford Cortina in Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4 ("Pop-eye Scruton told me off for being late. It's alright for him, he drives to school in a Cortina. I have got plenty of problems and no car.") Apart from that Sue Townsend doesn't describe cars much, she never tells us what Mole's dad drives.
