Dont worry 93_Montero, that was just funny  just so you know it means "i got it" indeed, but in feminine so with the article "la" you are refering to a female, "i got her"

CCF, I didn't mean to tell you how to speak your own language! Hahaha oops! Well, like everyone else I have many bands that I listen to that have names for no apparent reason. Most of Yo La Tengo's audience, the vast majority are from the United States. They probably wanted to make it sound mysterious and not immediately clear to everyone. One of the bands in my collection with the oddest name is Ms. John Soda from Germany. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for that name.

A long time ago there was a German song "Mein alter Audi 50"
("my old Audi 50")

Drivin' in my Peugeot hey-ay, yay-ay
20 inch rims with the chrome now hey-ay, yay-ay
Blazin' out Yo La Tengo hey-ay, yay-ay
Drivin' round poppin' with the top down hey-ay, yay-ay

 It reminds me of that Louis Theroux episode where he has a go at rapping:

Driving in my Fiat,
You really have to see it,
I'm 6 feet 2 in a compact,
But luckily the seats go back

I'm not sure you can really write great songs about European cars, American cars are more suitable.

Erm, yes, i know what it means  just wondering
93_Montero
It probably just means that Hot Chip are fans of Yo La Tengo from the United States. It is Spanish for "I got it".

Why is that other band's name "Yo la tengo" ?
93_Montero
I've been listening to the band Hot Chip (based in London, England). I thought antp and other Peugeot enthusiasts might like the lyrics to this song. I wrote down the chorus because it's somewhat difficult to understand. They also mention Yo La Tengo, which is a band from New Jersey, USA. Everyone should definitely check out music from both bands. I recommend Autumn Sweater by Yo La Tengo. Of course you can forget about the 20 inch rims
