I guess it is better late than never but I purchased a 1977 Jeep CJ-5 Renegade recently and the make is Jeep. While it does have the AMC badge on it the decal on the firewall states "Made by the Jeep Corp." and the Title and registration list only Jeep as the make.

I see what you mean, t0nkatracker. As I recalled, the AMC badge were indeed affixed on those Jeep in the 1970's and the 80's...
t0nkatracker
That doesn't really help as the question at hand is "Is AMC part of the make or just the parent company?"
rjluna2
Perhaps I can answer that...

AMC acquired Jeep operation in 1970 until the Chrysler take over in 1987.

For more information on Jeep ownershp is at

Does that help?

4x4peru may help us on that subject, but I do not think he comes here on the forum

That I really do not know (as there were both AMC and Jeep badges on the cars so it is possible) I guess we need an expert so we can straighten the site out as we have them listed both ways (i.e we have some of the same years and models listed as both Jeep and AMC Jeep)
antp
AMC was used as make for several cars (Gremlin, Javelin, ...)
Wasn't it the case for the Jeeps at some point of time?

I was just noticing the same thing, wouldn't that be like listing Gm cars like : General Motors Pontiac Firebird, or even General Motors Chevrolet Geo Tracker...

I am not very knowledgeable about Jeeps, but I notice several listed here as Make: AMC / Model: Jeep CJ-#
What's that all about? AMC as the make? I thought AMC was just the parent company for some years, and Jeep was the make. Please enlighten me about this naming convention :boggled:
