Baube that is a great listing.

I think that is exactly what we need to do and then maybe post this thread in the comments of certain vehicles or if it comes up again we can reference this thread?

Any other Admins have any input? I will be glad to tackle the job and fix the model names when it is decided

Acura unfortunately didn't learn Mercedes' lesson about putting the engine size number before the model name. They should have stuck to real names instead of the alpha-numeric naming just because everyone else did it. Just makes it confusing to promote the model line.

Of course the engine size naming is coming back to bite several manufacturers now that they've had to use smaller engines to meet emissions and fuel economy standards. Customers assumed that BMW and Mercedes were downgrading their cars because the new models had lower numbers than the previous model, so now they're just sticking with the larger number even though it doesn't match the engine size.

Only my opinion but i would go like this

1997-2000 1.6EL
2001-2003 1.7EL
2004-2005 EL

1997 2.2CL or 3.0CL
1998-1999 2.3CL or 3.0CL
2001-2003 3.2CL

1996-2004 3.5RL
2005-2012 RL

1996-1998 2.5TL ot 3.2TL
1999-2003 3.2TL
2004-2014 TL

as said first , that's only my idea of it...

good thing CSX, MDX, NSX, and all the others whateverX did not had this problem ( ZDX had some worst problems anyway  )

If that is the case I agree. So as a conensus are we putting the motor name in from of EL, RL, TL, & CL up until what year?

I can go back and change them all to have the motor in the name. I see what you mean Baube. It appears when Acura is referencing the vehicle lineup (the RL series or CL series) the motor is not present but when they refernce the certain model it is present.

I think the motor should in fact go in the name then. I also was running the VINs from GTcarlot and indeed the motor output is in front of the name.

not sure why we always treat Acura differently from Infiniti and Lexus when it goes to naming them ( talking about the alphanumeric designation, not the later ones where the numbers dissapeared )

as example, Infiniti G sedan that goes by G on the brochure's cover but as G25,35 and 37 here

same for Acura EL, which went by 1.6EL and 1.7EL ( we can add a space for better visibilty ) until the 2004 refresh, where it became the EL only

Guys I know this was brought up again today. The brochures list the them both ways.

I know motor output always goes into extra information in the united states unless it is part of the model name but here are a few issues I bring up with the model name.

The brochures list them as CL, RL, & TL respectively: http://www.auto-brochures.com/makes/acura/Acura_US20Line_1997.pdf
http://www.auto-brochures.com/makes/acura/Acura_US20Line_1998.pdf
http://www.auto-brochures.com/makes/acura/Acura_US20Line_1999.pdf
http://www.auto-brochures.com/makes/acura/Acura_US20Line_2000.pdf
http://www.auto-brochures.com/makes/acura/Acura_US20Line_2001.pdf

The parts site labels them as CL, RL, & TL: https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/acura - search under Acuras name and click on the the specific year (I chose anything after 1995)

So I am not sure how we handle this. I think the model name would be just RL, CL, TL but when Honda adds the name in front on certain sentences it makes it confusing.

I thought it would be best to check before identifiying the rest. I hate flooding the comments section but i really enjoy pointing out the little details to get the best accurate response.

when they got redesigned in 1999, the 2.5 TL went on permanent vacation

but they should ( to me ) as a 1996-1998 model
Terra
I noticed that the Acura 3.2TL's have their own page but not the 2.5TL for the 1996-1998 and 1999-2003 generations. Should the 2.5TL models have their own designation like the 3.2TL's?
