21 years. Dec 1985 to Oct 2006. Today the last Ford Taurus rolled off the assembly line. The plant that makes them, the Atlanta plant, is also closing forever. The last Ford Taurus went to the founder of the restaurant chain Chick-fil-A. He credits the Atlanta plant for making his business a success and the car will go to the Chick-fil-A headquarters in Atlanta. At least it's not going to Hertz as another beater rental car. It's quite sad how the Taurus became a fleet queen. Man, it brought aerodynamic design mainstream in America and it led the way for affordable 200hp sport sedans. It saved Ford in the '80s when they were almost bankrupt. It was a true American car. One designed and built by Americans for Americans. It wasn't a foreign design revamped for the US like most American cars today. It's quite sad. But hey, now it's the Camry and Accord's turn for being fleet queens since that's what's replacing the Taurus in rental car service (since Ford won't allow the Fusion and Five Hundred to be what the Taurus became in later years).

I heard. Its even sadder, because it is officially the end of the Tempo generation of cars. There was the Tempo, Escort, Probe and Taurus. Tempo is gone, Escort is gone, Probe is gone and now Taurus is gone.
