Just bought a car

I just bought my first car. It's a 1980 Dodge Aspen and it has a 3,7-litre in-line six cylinder engine known as 'Super Six'. I think it has about 110hp or so. It isn't exactly a rocket, it's more a cruising vehicle. Some things need to be sorten out in near future; rust spots in rear sills and doors and start engine has to be disassembled and cleaned (when I start engine the start engine just turns around untill I try half a dozen times). I just drove a 300km trip with this car and no big problems occured. I haven't ever driven American made car before so it takes time to get used to the "very" light steering action. I have to concentrate on driving all the time otherwise I get into trouble because when I turn the wheel slightly not much happens but then suddenly all too much!
I know this isn't a typical car of choice to start. I think I have watched too many 1970's American tv-series (Kojak, Starsky&Hutch).

Nice Are such old US cars more common in Finland than in other European countries? Or is it "rare" in your area too?

It's not so rare. Finnish people have always liked American cars. Around 1000 Aspen's were sold here in 1976-1980. Plenty of cars and parts still left of this model. Scandinavia is full of old American iron. In central Europe I never see this kind of cars. Maybe because of high insurance and taxes?

Probably. I know that such cars are not really usable here in Belgium due to taxes. But some newer models like Chevrolet Beretta are somewhat common.

Congratulations, I hope you enjoy your new ride. I know what you mean about the steering. American cars of that era did not give too much feel of the road but you will get used to it.

I know you said it has some rust spots on it, but from the pictures you provided, I see none. The body looks cosmetically sound. Paint finish still looks extra glossy. For it’s age, it looks to have been taken good care of. Very Nice!!! I hope it gives you many years of faithful service.
Many Congratulations to you Raul1983

Great find!
In Canada, there are very few American cars from that period that you can buy for a good price, they are sometimes considered historic and often cost more than when they were new!
