My dad has a 2.5 litre Vauxhall Omega which has 172 BHP I think, he's let me drive it twice BUT only in car parks in fields at motor shows, so that doesn't count. Last time he let me drive it up to the exit onto the main road, but no further, which was just as well because this complete prick in a Mercedes CLK convertible tried to overtake us at a roundabout and only just missed the oncoming traffic. If something had gone wrong there and I'd gotten into an accident, I would have gotten in trouble for driving a car I wasn't insured on.

I've just gotten back from my holiday where I visited LA, Las Vegas and San Francisco, and I drove a brand new 2007 Chevrolet Impala SS, it was a rental car. 5.3 litre V8, 303 BHP, apparentely it does 0-60 in 5.7 seconds (according to one website). Don't know what it's top speed is but the speedo only went to 140 mph. My Renault Clio feels like a go-cart after driving that!

The most powerful vehicle I have driven to date would probably be my newly acquired 2006 Ford Expedition Limited. It has a 300 hp / 365 lb – ft of torque, 5.4 liter 24 valve VCT (Variable Camshaft Timing)"Triton" V8; and will Zero to 60 mph in a little over 8 seconds, nothing special.

The engine itself idles fairly quiet, but when the accelerator is push to the floor the Triton V8 comes to life, letting you know its there. The engine roar at high rpm’s is a earsplitting, deep noted scream. It sounds very brutish to be factory stock. The exhaust is somewhat muted, so only a little growl is heard, again nothing to spectacular.

Car and Driver lists the top speed as 154mph. Meanwhile, what did you think of it? I got to spend about a half hour driving one, and I was pretty impressed. It was reasonably comfortable, and it made some nice burbly noises (using the remote starter in an underground parking garage is severely worth it).

And the most powerful car I've "driven" now is a C5 Corvette Z06 (405hp). I've only been able to pull it around a parking lot in first gear, mind you, but I've technically driven it. I'm still waiting on the chance to drive a C6 Corvette Z06.

I liked it, it was nice to drive a powerful car for a change, although I'm not sure if it really is as quick as that 0-60 time suggests, unfortunately I never got a chance to find out what's 0-60 was for myself. The only faults were that it's turning circle wasn't that great and I thought the exterior styling was a little bland, the previous Impala looked more distinctive.

But if it's top speed is really 154 mph, how come the speedo only goes to 140 mph? What would happen once it exceeds this speed?

I drove my mom's 2006 Cadillac DTS. 275 BHP and 295 lb-ft. A Northstar 4.6 liter V8. The handling is however, not very tight.

Firebird86 has us all beat! But mine was a worthy contender? 1966 Dodge Coronet 2dr HT,-Factory 426 Hemi!!- Stock,it's a mean car....This one'd been worked on 'just a bit'? Est.500+ HP.Mid 11 sec in 1/4 mile,street legal & was driven to track.(at a time when most cars this fast had to be trailered)(But it wasn't mine...and it was 20+ yrs ago??)

Hmmmm...a few years back at the Auto Show in Motion I got to drive a Corvette, Cadillac CTS-V, and a Chevy SSR pick up all of which had about 400hp. As far as my own cars, I have a low compression '72 Dodge Challenger 340ci with 240hp stock.

I'm still waiting for my friend to let me drive his 427 Shelby Cobra replica with 650hp. I don't want to ask...but maybe I should.

2003 Ford Expedition

October 2006 I joined "GM The Drive" in Las Vegas and selected a Corvette C6 (6.0 V8, 400 hp) and a Hummer H2 SUT (6.0 V8, 325 hp). The C6 seemed to be "slightly" quicker

And regarding the fastest speed I drove, my current Cadillac CTS achives 238 km/h (148 mph) on the German Autobahn until the speed governor comes.

As some of you already know, I was working at Europe´s biggest dealership for classic Cadillacs over a period of 10 years.

Thus I´ve driven several hundred Cadillacs (1940s - 1990s) and I can´t recall them all. Anyway, the most powerful factory made cars I drove were all the 1970s Fleetwood Eldorados with 8.2 litre and up to 400 hp. I have no idea, how many it were, but I suppose about 30.

The most powerful modified car was an early 80s GMC Vandura with a dragster engine and 600 hp. A friend of mine once owned this van and he NEVER let anybody else drive it - until he once lost his driving licence for a few weeks and wanted to visit his family, which lived about 200 km away from us. Well, he asked me if I could help him next sunday - and I could!

I haven't had the chance to drive anything very powerful yet. The most powerful car I've driven was a Chrysler Sebring 2,7 V6 Convertible which had about 200hp. Second most powerful is a Mazda Xedos 9 2,5 V6 with 170hp.
