Actually in the system used by Stronghold you only put the recorded DVD in the PC, you do not connect anything to the PC.
PowerDVD is one of the software that can be used to read DVDs on the PC.
First you should check if your Sony player can record on DVD-R or DVD+R, or if it can only read them. In that last case, you would need some video-in device. There are some that can be connected by USB or fireware rather than having to plug an additional card in the PC, which would be a better solution for a laptop
