I am having trouble finding an emblem here in the states for the Golf Cabriolet. part number 1E0853687Cz10 or 1E0853687C, it is simply the "Cabriolet badge" on the back of mark 3 golfs and I don't think it is discontinued but I can not find a new one for less that $160.00usd and every ebay seller I have talked to on ebay.de and ebay.uk that is breaking a Cabriolet will not sent the emblem to the US
![:ohwell: :ohwell:](images/smileys/ohwell.gif)
160$ is an impertinent joke. Originally they haven't cost that much. Maybe around 10€ or so.
The Audi 50-fellow has checked the VW ETKA-programme and has found out, that these parts were out of the programme since 2007 and 2010. There shall be the possibility to check via Internet at the "Volkswagen Classic Parts Center", if they have some in stock, but I haven't tried that now. And I'm not really convinced about the capabilities of those fellows. Bad experiences...
![:kiki: :kiki:](images/smileys/kiki.gif)
Otherwise I've just contacted a K 70-fellow, who works since 1977 at a VW-garage, in the last years as the boss of the spare-parts-division. There are other channels, too
![:sol: :sol:](images/smileys/sol.gif)
Any connaisseur of not brand new Volkswagens and Audis should have such connections.
If you want to enjoy an older or classic car without having annoyances with the purchase of spare parts, you better buy a Mercedes, Porsche or Rolls Royce. There you just go to the dealer and buy the stuff.

To follow up your comment on the Quantum, my dad had two of them, a silver 1983, and a black 1987. First car I ever drove 100mph.
These old Quantums/Dashers/Passats/Santanas are indeed surprisingly fast. The older, the faster, at least in Europe. They are lightweight cars -the oldest brother, the Audi 80 B1 was indeed deliberately as a lightweight-car constructed by Ludwig Krauss and his team.
With "at least in Europe" I mean, because the pre-catalytic converter-versions (before 1985/86) are faster than the later ones. They aren't that worse castrated as the mid-70ies-US-spec cars (all cars, not only VW's), but despite the catalytic converter, injection and ignition had a different adjustment.
I remember my high-speed experiences with my Dad's 1981 Passat LS [32B]. It was just the semi-basic 75 hp-1.6 liter-version, but the older it became, the faster it was going. No catalytic converter and the "angle-grinder-stylish" 165-tires were very helpful. Officially its max speed was 164 km/h, so I was really surprised, when I saw the first the needle at the 190 km/h-line while driving full throttle down a hill
![:wam: :wam:](images/smileys/wam.gif)
Later I've seen, that the Passat became faster, the more I drove long distances with higher speed on the Autobahn. At its last time it became so fast, that the tacho-needle clicked, far behind the 200 km/h-line ( as here, the basic tacho without a rev.counter: http://www.gebrauchtefahrzeugteile.de/images/product_images/popup_images/2903_0.- jpg ) against the knob for the "0"-position of the trip counter
![:ddr555: :ddr555:](images/smileys/ddr555.gif)
It was a really nicer driving, when the valve-shaft-rings were leaky.
![:tinostar: :tinostar:](images/smileys/tinostar.gif)
The blue smoke due the burned oil, was very usable to keep annoying BMW-drivers behind on distance. They came along and wanted to push the shabby old VW away from the left lane. I let them coming closer, still driving full throttle, then I lifted the foot off the gas pedal and then, after a few seconds, I kicked down the pedal two times suddenly fully down - there was a complete blue wall behind me

@tonkatracker: are you interested to pimp your Jetta to the Chinese version? I can ask my Japanese friend, who has connections to China. He already has organized a Chinese "VOLKSWAGEN"-badge for my wife's 2008 Polo Blue Motion.

I guess that makes sense, the ETKA copy I have is from 2007 (I didn't much care that it was out dated because I don't own newer VWs)

As for the Chinese Jetta, I thought about doing that, there are some websites that sell the taillights and door handles from the Chinese versions as upgrades to the regular German VW but I am not really sure about them. I would be interested in a Chinese Volkswagen emblem though!!

Here is our Jetta...
http://thumbnails102.imagebam.com/24406/c3428f244054910.jpg
Nothing too special to report about it, but it does get great fuel mileage, has a pretty nice "Monsoon" sound system and I love the luminescent electric blue and orange gauges.

I too like those wheels, so much so in fact that I have a set of them in my basement to put on the Cabrio. I just have to finish getting the parts to convert it from 4 lug to 5 lug first.

about Quantums, there is a blue 85 in a junkyard near me, that I have just pulled the original VW stereo out of to put into my Jetta to keep it as original as possible. The Junkyard gave it to me for free as they wondered why anyone would want a 27 year old cassette player

![:sol: :sol:](images/smileys/sol.gif)
About my first sentence: those Jetta-fellows are keen to pimp their cars to the American style. So it would be appreciated, if you could check the junkyards and wreckers around for older and really old Volkswagens. Or if old-established aftersales-market-dealerships have some NOS-stuff in the storage. Maybe there are some goodies, the freaks here are crazy for

We don't have hardcore-Fiat-freaks here, or? Yesterday I've noticed in our local gas station, which belongs to and old-established Fiat/Lancia/Alfa Romeo-dealership, that one lamp behind the service-counter is an old illuminating promotion-sign - with a Fiat 131 Rallye on.

What should I be on the look out for at the scrapyards? My local yard sends me a text message anytime they get a new VW or Jeep in. I have often traded Suzuki parts with friends overseas. One fellow I sent all parts to convert his Suzuki Vitara to a Geo Tracker (lights, cluster, grille, rear bumper, emblems) and he sent all of those parts to me to turn one of my Trackers into a Vitara years ago

@ingo, also I know you collect license plates so you probably have lots of connections there, I am looking for a set of matching WOB plates that would be period correct for my Jetta II (1987) is this something that can be found reasonably or am I just wishful thinking?

Hmm, let see, what is possible. Old WOB-plates are often inquired by VW-freaks overseas. Years ago I've send a packet with them to Japan.
There are two smaller difficulties with them:
a) to get some with an un-scratched silver sticker. Because this is the evidence, that the vehicle has a valid registration, rhey have to be destroyed, when the registration became void
b) plates with the font and in the style, which were used in 1987, are not issued any more since 2000. So they became a bit rare.
Anyways, it should be solvable

yes all the real German tags that I have have one of the seals either completly gone or mostly scratched off, so I don't mind that as much, I just want to have something more authentic in a WOB plate for when I go to car shows. I have a set of older German tags that I use but they are not from Wolfsburg, they are from Südliche Weinstraße

Annother point, we plate-freaks already know: send plates with Umlaute to the US-freaks. They love it very much. As this SÜW
![ ](images/smileys/smile.gif)
Except plates from towns, where German car companies have their headquarter or other plants, from towns and counties, where US-troops are stationated, plates with Umlaute are liked, too.

These plates came with the car, and the umlaute is nice but I would much rather have WOB plates (Ive moved the newer WOB plate to the golf since it would be period correct for that car and put the SÜW plate on the Jetta, until you can find me some older WOB plates
