Fraudulent news (why you really shouldn’t believe everything you see on TV)
I was browsing YouTube and came across part of a video of GM debunking Dateline NBC's staged crash test of GM pickup trucks. I still remember that broadcast from NBC.

In 1993, Dateline NBC aired a side impact crash test of the third generation "rounded line" GMC and Chevrolet C/K-Series pickup trucks. Dateline stated that the trucks were unsafe and that even in a low speed side impact, the side mounted fuel tanks would easily rupture and the fuel inside would catch fire.
An unknown car was run head-on into the side of the pickup with an instant explosion follow thereafter. The public was left to assume that the trucks were indeed unsafe.
What NBC never stated was that they rigged the truck with explosive charges in the tank to cause the ignition of the gasoline and that the fuel tanks did not rupture. GM sued NBC, several NBC employees were either fired or moved, and NBC publicly apologized to General Motors.
