No, I still think we ought to do something about this.

Anyway, some list more cars than others, that's a fact.
For those that list too many cars, just post a comment on those that you think that they are too background and see if some other admin(s) confirm or not.

I don't know I agree that really blurry or far away cars shouldn't be listed, also parking lots shouldnt be listed that have a millon cars in them unless one REALLY stands out, but as far as "ordinary" cars There are lots of ppl that like just plain old cars. I know every Geo Tracker/Suzuki I see I want to contribute them because I love them and even though they are very commonplace on the streets, they are not so much in Movies. Also when I do screen captures If some of the background cars are very visable or unusual (i.e. Escort SS in made in america) I will send them also. If there are not that many cars in a movie (like in Wrong Turn) I will capture the background vehicles to try out "fill-out" the page

It's fine for some admins to be more prolific than others, I just wish some of them would stop filling their pages with so many pointless background cars.

Take this movie:

http://www.imcdb.org/movie_381681-Before-Sunset.html

There is only one car that has anything to do with the story and there are no captures of cars seen through the windows or in traffic, because they have no revelance to what happens in the film, apart from just being in Paris, they don't deserve listing anymore than a tree does.

I disagree, It is boring to look at a movie page with only one car in it. SOME background cars would make it more interesting

25/01/2007 @ 17:32:23: G-MANN: Background Vehicles
There was just nothing else adding worth adding in that film.

When i first came here I my thoughts about background cars was different than it is now. I saw this site as a way to look up a movie and see what cars were used in it - not just the main car. I also saw it as a research tool for someone that might be doing a report on, let's say a Ford Tempo. How many movies really use a Ford Tempo as the main car...they're usually the background car. So, if we limit background cars, that might get rid of a bunch of Tempos. (which actually isn't really a bad thing  )

I still feel that background cars are important.....as long as they're visible.

I agree that in a large parking lot, not to do a "pick one". But if there are maybe 5 cars that are visible and doing a "pick one" is OK. Like mentioned above, some cars aren't as common as others.

I think it goes back to being "visible" and how much of the screen it takes up.

G-Mann, I'm not picking on you (i've probably got a ton of cars that should be deleted)....but you have a Subaru DL in Sopranos that's one star. You mention it's in the opening, but only a part of the back shows. How does that fit into the rules that we're trying to establish?

G-MANN >> Yes, that happens for some movies, that there are really nothing worth mentionning, even if other cars are visible.

I agree that for this one, even if in the credits, is maybe not worth a mention

I'm not trying to ban all background cars, I want just want people to be a bit more discrimating so movie pages aren't needlessly flooded with background cars. If a car doesn't appear anywhere else on the database or there only a few other then it's OK to post that as a background vehicle, like the yellow Crosley pickup in Animal House, but most popular mainstream cars are all already well represented, so if one makes a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance in a film, it doesn't really matter if it isn't added.

About the Suburu and the other cars in the credits sequences, maybe I could take then out and post them as thumbnails, I think it's good that Stronghold posts thumbnails of the title sequence of TV shows in the comments, maybe I'll do that with this show.

So buy this rule I cant for instance get a better pic of this corolla and post it so I can use this pic for the Sidekick because its just a background car that you can't see all of ??

The Corolla is much more visible than the Sidekick (the fact that the front is visible rather than the rear is a good point for the Corolla vs the Sidekick)

If the Sidekick is not more visible, I do not think that it deserves its own page, especially if it is just duplicating the same picture.
25/01/2007 @ 18:39:17: G-MANN: Background Vehicles
Neither of those vehicles are worth listing.

oh i wasnt talking about using the same pic, i just have a better pic of the enitr front of the corolla (w/o peter parker in front of it) and wanted to replace it with that
25/01/2007 @ 18:42:43: G-MANN: Background Vehicles
But why is it important to list that Corolla anyway? It's completely background and it's ONLY a Corolla. Does anyone really care about them?

Post the picture here, we'll see
I didn't list the Corolla when watching the movie (didn't thought it was worth listing I guess), it was added by der.krusche.
25/01/2007 @ 19:43:54: t0nkatracker: Background Vehicles
I don't think i am getting my point across. The only reason I want to post a different picture of the Corolla is so I can use the current Corolla picture for the Sidekick, but If It would not be used for the Sidekick then there is no reason to post another picture of the Corolla

I think it's quite clear and visible background car. I have a rule for myself that background car should be atleast 50% visible and close enough to the camera. In this case the Corolla is about 50% visible and very easy to identify so I would let it stay.

I admit it's only a Corolla but maybe we should think things in long term. What is the situation ten years from now ? This Corolla might suddenly look interesting in 2017.

Newer cars don't interest me very much that's why I specialize in older movies and tv-series. I don't have to think so much about which car is interesting and which is not. I have posted a lot of background cars but I let them stay maybe a year and then I move them in to imageshack thumbnails.
25/01/2007 @ 21:04:02: ahight: Background Vehicles
I agree about the Corolla too. It looks fine to me. I know Tonkatracker likes the Sidekick, that's why I mentioned if he could get a better photo we could upload it. He responded back that he couldn't. Using the Sidekick as an example...that seems too far away vs the Corolla and wouldn't make a good background car.

I also agree with Raul1983 about what might not have been interesting cars now, might be in 2017. Now that i'm doing 80's movies...i'm finding a bunch of 80's cars that you rarely see on the roads anymore...but back then they were as common as a Corolla now. So if this site existed back then, then those cars wouldn't have been included (and we'd be doing captures in DOS or something like that).

That's why i would think if there was a rule about background cars, it should be about size and if they're recognizable. If there's any mention of feelings toward the popularity of a car will just keep issues like this going all the time where one person think's "it's just a Corolla" and one person thinks "well it's easily identifiable" If it can be clearly seen and capturable then it should be good.
