Subject: Non-Unidentified Vehicles

Both are 2-star vehicles, so deleting them won't help: be sure people will later add them again.
I always wonder about this urge to delete unidentifiable vehicles: what's wrong with having unknown vehicles in the database? The fact that nobody managed to identify them for now doesn't mean nobody will ever.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist with IMCDb stuff, a big fat unknown in the middle of a gallery full of otherwise ID'd vehicles just bugs the hell out of me for some reason. I'd rather have them not there at all then left unknown forever.

I gave them both names. The Ford was blurry, but I think there was enough to see it as 1975+ rather than 1973-74. The other one is obviously VW-based. Wasn't sure if it was built using a specific kit or not. No one chimed in.

I agree with eLMeR - if a vehicle is reasonably visible and/or has a role, it deserves a page, whether or not it can be ID'd. If someone comes to imcdb hoping to find out what the thing they've just noticed in the film is, we should acknowledge its existence even if for whatever reason we can not tell them what it is. If our visitor reads the comments, they would then know that the best collection of brains in the universe have tried valiantly but failed to solve it, which is still a valid result.

A big fat unknown in the middle of a gallery full of otherwise ID'd vehicles often bugs the hell out of me as well, but sometimes we just have to swallow hard and live with them. IDability should not be a primary criterion for inclusion/exclusion compared to onscreen visibility or role.

Well, only if they have a chance of being identified one day. Some unknowns don't have that chance, like box trucks seen from the back, with no visible details (cab, rear lights) able to give us a clue about their identity. Those ones should be moved to comments.

I agree, at least for the "and" version: there can be "forever unknowns".
Also, it is always possible that someone someday has info about the car (having worked on the movie, etc. it already happened several times) or that a picture upgrade gives more visual details

If not reasonably visible (like the back of a truck, as Exiv96 mentions), then moving to comments is fine indeed.

I'd think that over as Kaijuforceneo's IDs are very unreliable. He basically just spouts out a random name for IDs.

I've noticed that too, but I think it can at least be ID'd as a Dodge Ram Van (without a year) for now since supcoach also agreed on that make and model

Ignored???? It's been about 24 hours since approved

Also most of these have not been complete or correctly ID'd

No, the idea of common vehicles like Dodge Ram Van, Ford F/E-Series, etc. leaved as unknown is to get a year.
If we just put a model without year, they are not anymore in the "unknown" and will most likely never get more precisely identified.
