These some good TV adverts but mostly they can be a right pain, interrupting the program you are watching, forcing you to wait a good five minutes or so before it resumes (American TV viewers have it worst, with commercials breaks every 8-10 minutes). What car adverts, past or present, have irritated you the most? You can include adverts from newspapers/magazines if you like.
My choices are:
The Vauxhall adverts with Griff Rhys-Jones (circa 1999) playing a nerdy bearded bloke. They didn't do much for the image of a brand that already has a bit of an image problem.
The current Vauxhall adverts with two kids with Northern [English] accents who act like dads in a sort of role-reversal situation. "Eh up!" "How's your Vauxhall Zafira?" "I'm parched, I'm going to 'ave a kip!"
The adverts for the Fiat Sedici SUV, the one that shows a man getting peed on by a baby, parents picking up their kids in the rain (now however could you that without an SUV?), slogan: "Everyday life is an adventure".
The mid-1990s Vauxhall Astra advert that featured a baby giving a speech about the car (highlighting it's child-friendly features) to an audience of other babies. The baby is too young to actually speak so he just sits behind the podium bellowing demented gurgling noises (subtitles explain what he is saying). I didn't actually find this annoying, just hilariously stupid, one of the daftest car adverts ever.
The adverts for Sheila's Wheels car insurance (not advertising a car but car-related), Australian ladies with shrill voices singing an irritating jingle. After having seen it dozens of times I can't stand it anymore.
Once I went to the cinema and with the pre-film trailers there was this short film that showed a orchestra of human voices providing vocal sound effects for a Volkswagen, a bunch of grown adults making stupid car noises with nothing but their vocal chords, "Brrummmmmm" "Zozzzshhh" and it went on for, I'm not joking, 15 MINUTES! One of the wankiest things I've ever seen.
By the way if anyone wants to see some really silly Japanese car adverts (and adverts for other things) featuring film stars such as Sean Connery and Charlize Theron, visit
