Shitbox-alarm in front. Fortunately I could immediately overtake.
The French magazine "
Gazoline" had its editorial about the "youngtimer phenomenon", 2 months ago:
"20 years ago, we and our 'used cars' were not welcome everywhere. Our Simca Aronde P60 or Renault Dauphine were indeed only 30 years old.[...]
So we should welcome these youngtimers enthusiasts, as we were like them not that long ago. We all share the same passion for cars."
...
(Well, that's the "intellectual approach". In "feeling approach", I just can't see a Renault 12 or a Peugeot 304 -and all cars of that time- as classic cars. I saw too much of them as new and then used cars, when I was a child.
Maybe it has also something to do with our own aging?
)
Yes, the "Gazoline"-writer is absolutely correct. The times go on and there are always new generations upcoming.* 25 years ago, when we K 70-freaks started with our community, many people didn't understand that. But at least this happened to nearly every classic car, resp.their enthusiasts.
"Post-WWII is a no-go" was said by the first classic car fans, upcoming in the early 70ies (btw.: same opinion in West and East Germany)
"The only acceptable VW Beetle had to be from 1948 and older" (some hardcore-VW-freaks)
"plastic bumpers are a no-go" (a very very popular opinion since the late 80ies, very common still today)
"Post WWI (I, not II !!

) is a no-go" say some freaks, as for example

Yes, these opinions are very related to the age of the person. Generally you prefer the cars of your childhood. A big distance of the age between vehicle and fan is unusual (in both ways). I was born in 1970, so the cars, appearing in the 70ies, are "my" cars.
I don't know, how it is in other countries, but in Germany the scene of pre-war cars, but also from 1950ies motorbikes and any brands, disappeared a long time ago as Borgward or DKW, have indeed the problem, that they die off, but no newbies are coming up.
For that reason, the prices for those vehicles (except a few high-priced premium-collectibles) do not increase. They stagnate, some are even getting lower.
*this is not totally correct. There are some fan-scenes, where this doesn't happen. For example for steam-machines and -technology. A neighbour of my parents, who is engaged there, tells that.
