The owner is probably a US serviceman who was stationed in Italy, but how did he get his Polo registered in Virginia?

I have no idea, he must know some loophole in the law. Where I live in Norfolk, VA has more military bases than just about anywhere else and it can't be that easy to import cars even for the military guys or I would see them more often.

No idea. Maybe there's a direct upload possible, if the pics aren't too big. Ask Antoine.

Or open an Imageshack-Account. After more than 1 year of free usage, I've paid at the beginning of this month 20$ (within a few seconds via PayPal) for the next year to use it. I think, the price is o.k. When it doesn't work (as at my account for unknown reasons), they have an alert and fast acting help-desk.

That looks like 1958-60 Volkwagen Pickup with non-original taillights.

No idea why, but at the garage in the Yosemite Park were parked several older cars. Maybe there were more, but I was quite sick that day (never "Denny's again...) :sick125:

There is no picture uploading capacity on the forum. You need to post the pictures on a photo sharing website. Imageshack used to have unlimited capacity, but they have now limited the free service to 200 pics.

Flickr is now offering 1 Tetrabyte of space for free. When you share things on this side, use the BB Code. Here's an example:

Flickr is now offering 1 Tetrabyte of space for free.

And it helps people know quickly if and how you want to share your work by allowing you to put easily a Creative Commons license (or a bare copyright) on it.
Not all tools "think" to that...
26/04/2014 @ 11:11:24: antp: interesting/funny/special cars sightings
Flickr is indeed probably a good way to store, organize and share your own pictures.
The two I mentioned above are rather for temporary sharing a pic on a forum/site rather than for really manage them in long-term.

If there is an interest -and if I have the time and interest- I can upload them agin. Of course I have all of them recorded and, as it seems, they are also still on my Imageshack-account.

No, it was in the past, when the free Imageshack-account was limited to 200 pics. If you reached the limit, you had to delete some pics and could go on. Nowadays it's time-limited, for one year. After one year you have to pay 2$ per month or 20$ per year.

This early morning I spotted a brand new (first registration in March 2014) Lada Niva "Taiga 4x4" on the A31.
They were not too rare here in the 80ies and 90ies, but since the bankruptcy of Lada Deutschland in 1999 this brand and its dealerships were nearly extinct. There is a private importer since then, but the very few Ladas, he sells, appear mainly in East Germany, where still some hardcore-Lada-Freaks are.

Pics from this event http://youngtimervestival.de/index.php?id=90 , I've visited today. Only a few pics and only of (for me) outstanding/unusual rarities (not the masses of BMW, Audi, Opel etc.), because all my camera-accus were screwed, so I had to save energy. :ohwell:

At this event I've understand, that the times are going on. The very most cars there were "youngtimers" -in Germany cars between 20 and 30 years are (nick-)named so.
It's not easy for me too accept all this late-80ies to mid-90ies stuff as (upcoming) classics. There were masses of VW Golf II, E30-BMW, even E34-BMW, Opel Vectra, Calibra, the most common model was the 1st walter-Audi (plus three 2nd walter-Audis), G-MANN-Omegas and Lateef-Passats (also the successor 35i, even the 1994+ facelift), and many more.
Do I have to accept cars at "classics", which were built, when we K 70-freaks were already spooking around on classic car events???
Though there were a few 50ies and 60ies cars (even a Mercedes 300d Cabriolet), my K 70 was one of the older participants.

Everyone says, that this is an ugly car in an ugly colour -me, too-, but in fact these versions, basic Wagons without any extra options become extreme rarities, all of them. Because who keep them? Usually the people take car about Convertibles, posh or sporty versions, but not about these extra-poverty items:

I think it's the same name everywhere.

You were in a meeting named... "Youngtimer Vestival". So you should not wonder that there was more youngtimer cars than classic ones

The French magazine "Gazoline" had its editorial about the "youngtimer phenomenon", 2 months ago:
"20 years ago, we and our 'used cars' were not welcome everywhere. Our Simca Aronde P60 or Renault Dauphine were indeed only 30 years old.[...]
So we should welcome these youngtimers enthusiasts, as we were like them not that long ago. We all share the same passion for cars."

Just remember someone bought your K 70 as a new car and drove it every day so it became a used one, before you had it as a "classic" one...

(Well, that's the "intellectual approach". In "feeling approach", I just can't see a Renault 12 or a Peugeot 304 -and all cars of that time- as classic cars. I saw too much of them as new and then used cars, when I was a child.
Maybe it has also something to do with our own aging? )

Yes, the "Gazoline"-writer is absolutely correct. The times go on and there are always new generations upcoming.* 25 years ago, when we K 70-freaks started with our community, many people didn't understand that. But at least this happened to nearly every classic car, resp.their enthusiasts.

"Post-WWII is a no-go" was said by the first classic car fans, upcoming in the early 70ies (btw.: same opinion in West and East Germany)

"The only acceptable VW Beetle had to be from 1948 and older" (some hardcore-VW-freaks)

"plastic bumpers are a no-go" (a very very popular opinion since the late 80ies, very common still today)

"Post WWI (I, not II !! :wam: ) is a no-go" say some freaks, as for example http://www.veterancarrun.com/

Yes, these opinions are very related to the age of the person. Generally you prefer the cars of your childhood. A big distance of the age between vehicle and fan is unusual (in both ways). I was born in 1970, so the cars, appearing in the 70ies, are "my" cars.

I don't know, how it is in other countries, but in Germany the scene of pre-war cars, but also from 1950ies motorbikes and any brands, disappeared a long time ago as Borgward or DKW, have indeed the problem, that they die off, but no newbies are coming up.
For that reason, the prices for those vehicles (except a few high-priced premium-collectibles) do not increase. They stagnate, some are even getting lower.

*this is not totally correct. There are some fan-scenes, where this doesn't happen. For example for steam-machines and -technology. A neighbour of my parents, who is engaged there, tells that.
09/05/2014 @ 21:29:44: weasel1984: interesting/funny/special cars sightings
But I think for the 1980s cars it is more difficult to become classics - more difficult than it was for the 1970s ones in the 1990s. I thought that when they will become enough old, it will happen in, let's say, natural way, but it didn't
IMHO it is caused by the fact, that after all, we are still in the design era started in the 1st half of the 1980s. Many new design solutions introduced back then are still valid, still used in a bit modified form, hence, when we look on the 80s cars, the charm of a bygone era simply doesn't exist. These are simply a bit dated cars and nothing more. This situation of course won't last forever and can be changed, when some revolution in the automotive design will happen, but it rather won't be soon.
