With the Saab is something not correct/legal.
It's regulary impossible, that worn out, damaged or abandoned Danish cars still have their license-plates. The Danish rules are extremely strict. If a car shall be brought out of registration, the plates must be brought to the police and will be destroyed there. So there is no legal way to keep non-valid license-plate at home or in a collection. When the original owners had lost their car by a crash, later on they had to do everything possible to get the plates and bring them back to the Danish police.

You guys may be interested in this link i provide you, it's in Spanish but i suppose that you can enjoy the pictures anyway, so have a look at it, it's a website of a guy that makes pictures of abandoned places, cars, roads etc, and one of the sections of the website is that, abandoned roads and vehicles, he explains things with the pictures so if any of you have a doubt just ask me, the website is updated usually with the submissions of new pictures.

This is the link for the main page of the site.

Do you know what the story of that Lincoln Town Car stretch is? It's a 95-97 model so it's not very old. Seems odd for it to be lying with broken windows and graffiti on it.

No, sorry ecclefechan, the guy doesn't explain why, he just says he was told about the car being there and he went and took some pictures of it, but nothing about why or how it ended up there, the broken windows and the graffiti are obviously from bandals that see that the car is abandoned and they decide to break it.

Today I visited Finland's biggest old car and parts collection. A year ago the collector died and now everything is for sale. There used to be 500-600 old cars in barns and outside in nature. There were rare cars like; Auburn, Moon, EMW, Peerless, De Vaux, Hupmobile, Checker, American Bantam, Wanderer etc. There is a book just published about this collection. Now only about 30 cars are left but car parts are still plentiful. Some pictures I took:

That's so neat! You're lucky to have been there

Speaking of junkyards, I just visited my local junkyard this afternoon. I bought some more badges to add to my collection, though only a few and most of them were "Grand Marquis" (I figure now that I own one I should have more of them  ). I even went so far as to remove a grille from a 1996 Cougar (with the cat emblem even!) but when I went to the front desk to buy it, they said it would cost 25 dollars. Considering that I bought a whole front end of a Chevrolet Caprice at that same junkyard a few months ago for 50 dollars, I sure as hell was not going to spend 25 dollars on a tiny little plastic grille! So sadly, I had to leave it there :ohwell:

I also tried to buy a small BMW badge (the circular blue and white logo) but they said it would cost 5 dollars becuase those cars are so rare. All the other badges I got were only 50 cents, so I chose to leave the BMW badge there too unfortunately :ohwell:

That proves that they dont have an standar list of prices and they ask you for totally different amounts of money from a day to another.
26/10/2008 @ 01:14:38: taxiguy: Junk yards and abandoned cars
Yes that's often the case at this paticular junkyard. It depends on the people that you ask a lot of the time. There's a lady that works there (she's the owner of the yard actually) that often will be nice and let you have things for a lot less. But today we didn't see her, so we had to get prices from the other guys who worked there, who were not so nice about prices!
26/10/2008 @ 02:17:12: CarChasesFanatic: Junk yards and abandoned cars
Speaking of prices, this reminds me of one time that i went to a "market" and the prices were not added to the items, you had to go to the owner of the things and ask her how much for something, they didnt even know how to haggle (<--is this verb correct?) i got an scale model Ford Galaxy, a plastic one, more a toy than a collection item but i liked it so i got it, i went to her and asked her, how much for this? mmmmmmmmmmm 20 euros, and my uncle that was with me told her oh come on you know this doesn't cost as much at all, i give you 2 euros my uncle said, and she said, ok...

This proves they were quite ignorant in this, even if they are used to it, they were Gypsis mind you, so this is a prove that this happens a lot, they ask what they want in that moment, and then if you go another day asking for a simlar thing the price can be lower or higher, who knows...

Here's a pretty exciting find of mine:

Very big abandoned house:

If the plate was not partially hidden by leaves, we could check on DVLA since when that car is there  (as I guess that the tax was not paid since)

I took other photographs where you can see the whole plate and have checked it up. Here it is:

The vehicle details for KGE 808V are:

Date of Liability 01 07 1992
Date of First Registration 05 09 1979
Year of Manufacture 1979
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 6750CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Petrol
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour RED
Vehicle Type Approval null

I was amazed it's been off the road for so long, as there's very little signs of vandalism (other than some scratches on the wood trim) and the overall bodywork looks relatively solid. 12/13 years is a very short lifespan for a car like that.

OH-MY-GOD!! That's an incredible discovery ecclefechan!!! how great, have you entered the house? i'd love to see it's interior if you did then please show us the pictures, they must be quite interesting!

Sadly not, but access would be very easy if you had some tools to pry off the wooden boards. I was just there alone so I didn't want to risk doing anything dumb and have nobody to make excuses for me if I was caught!

I'll maybe go back with a friend and try to find a way inside. The boarded up garage that's attached to the house has me curious. I wonder if there's another car in there. :liplick:

MMMMMMMMMMM!!! how morbid!!! don't doubt on keeping me up to date if you enter it i'm quite curious on what's in the sinde of it! how did you discover the garage the Rolls was in by the way? and do you know anything about why the house was left?
30/10/2008 @ 01:25:57: taxiguy: Junk yards and abandoned cars
You should see if the car runs and then take it, I don't think it would be missed by anyone if it's been sitting there since 1992.
30/10/2008 @ 01:36:49: CarChasesFanatic: Junk yards and abandoned cars
That's not very legal to do nor easy.
30/10/2008 @ 02:35:31: Neptune: Junk yards and abandoned cars
I wouldn’t think that would be legal either. But, the owner would not care assuming he/she or they (if it were a married couple who owned it) is deceased.

That would be like me dying and someone (10, 20 or how ever many years later) found my vehicle setting in the garage. If the person took it, I would not know.

Removing the car would be easy as long as the transmission was not locked-up (gears froze into place from not working) If the transmission was still in working order, it could be placed in Neutral to allow the wheels to free-spin. The car has slack tyres, so either way; it would have to be pulled out.

Legally owning the car would be another matter. If I wanted the car, I would check to see if the owner had children or other family that are still living. If they agreed to sell the car or if they simply didn’t care and wanted to give the car away for free – that would be one way to own it.

Somewhere in Belgium is a large abandoned house and this:

I found the house on the Buildings at Risk register for Scotland. I was just wandering around the grounds snapping photos of the house when I spotted the garage out the corner of my left eye.

The Buildings at Risk register for Scotland doesn't give much information about why the house is empty, but here's what it does give:

"The former owner went bankrupt in 2000 and vacated the property. He and the current owner are in a dispute that is unlikely to be resolved in the short term. Development of the extensive garden grounds is unlikely to be granted Planning Permission."

Most likely nobody would notice if the Rolls went missing. However, moving it would only be possible if you had a tow truck, I think. I doubt any of the cars we own would have the pulling power to tow a car of its weight. Trying to sell it and register it back on the road without the consent of the owner could also be an issue. Still, I'm sure even in that condition it would still fetch a reasonable amount of money.

If you paste the coordinates 55°51'20.94" N 4°35'25.06" W into Google Earth or Google Maps you can see exactly where the house is, and you can see the garage in the back left. It also appears that a large area of the woodland is also within the grounds of the house.

I also visited another abandoned house nearby on the same day. No car at this one and I didn't get inside either, but it's still an interesting find. Here's a video of it followed by a short drive around the area by me:

http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=2r213f7&s=4

As for this one, I have no idea what so ever why it's empty. It appears to have been empty for less time and in better condition.

Also interesting is that Rolls Royce in Belgium. It looks like it's been lying abandoned for some time also, but DVLA has the date of liability as January 2009 and vehicle status as "SORN not due".
