[N/A] UAZ 469 in film "Strange Days" 1995?

Was watching on Showtime, could not freeze frame. The rapper / political guy out with his posse and stopped by the cops. "Can't a black man drive a Jeep". Looked like a Russian UAZ. Were they on the market in L.A. then?
