The Kia, is it the whole car or just the style? It is not clear when they say "designed". Lots of cars were designed in Italy for example, if you only consider the style.
For the Civic, it concerns the US Civic, do not forget that there are other Civic models (e.g. the one in Europe has same name and also exists in 2006+ models)
Also, isn't the US model very close to the "original" Japanese model?

These model origins can be very problematic. I can think of a few other models where one body style is designed somewhere else than the base car, here are the first ones that come to mind:
Kia Cee'd: designed in Germany
Opel Astra H / Chevrolet Vectra C: sedan model designed in Brazil
Chevrolet Cruze: hatchback model designed in Australia
Should these be kept as they are or get model origins after where the body was designed, like for example the Renault Siete?
27/06/2011 @ 15:17:58: antp: Model Origin changes
As I said the design does not count: lots were made by Italian design companies.
It is the conception of the whole car which counts.
For me it is the original of the base model which counts, but others wanted to use the country of the "modified" model for sedan versions etc. It is true that in that case it is not only the design but other technical aspects of the car which had to be changed/studied.
But this could be solved when it will be possible to specify two origins: for the Astra Sedan it would be DE+BR for example.

Not to bring up an old topic, but I noticed that the Honda Ridgelines on the site are listed as Origin: Japan. They were designed exclusively by and for the North American market. I checked this list, and most have been changed, except the Ridgeline, Pilot and Civic Coupes. I would definitely recommend the Ridgeline and Pilot be changed to Origin: USA. The Ridgeline was made in Canada from 2006-2008, and the USA from 2009-present. The first generation Pilot was built in Canada and the USA (mixed production from 2004-2007, then US for 2008 my), the second generation (2009+) was built in the USA.
As far as the Civic coupes, they were designed by the California Studio and are exclusively made in the US and Canada, but sold worldwide. We have the similar Accord Coupes as Origin: USA.
01/01/2016 @ 12:19:44: antp: Model Origin changes
ok, updated
I also changed the default origin for these, when they are entered without origin.
(edit: except for the default of Civic Coupe: the current system only takes the first word of the model for origin, so I can't make a different case for Civic Coupe than Civic without going changing more than just the exceptions list, so that will be for later)

Genuine Scooters is a US make selling scooters that are commonly said to be rebadged versions of Indian or Taiwanese scooters
imported from the corresponding country but
sold only in USA (the company is based in Chicago).
There are for now 16 Genuine
Buddy in the IMCDb. Logically, all are set as
Model origin: Taiwan, and
3 of them are also noted as
Made for USA. But, as explained
in this 2010 article,
Riding Stella's success, the company partnered with a factory in Taiwan to create the product that would elevate the company to one of the nation's top scooter sellers.
Genuine's flagship brand, known in the U.S. as "Buddy", is made in Taiwan and was an existing product that did not succeed in Asia or Europe. According to McCaleb, Genuine made modifications, renamed it and started a new life for it in America.
Isn't that worth a
Model origin: USA — Build in Taiwan? Or at least a
Model origin Taiwan — Made for USA for all?
For the record, the 5 other Genuine present in the IMCDb (
all Stellas) are noted as
Model origin: India — Made for: USA.
15/01/2018 @ 18:44:20: antp: Model Origin changes
good question; indeed they should be changed to all match the same info... for the origin it depends who conceived it: did the Taiwan factory only build it according to the plans from Genuine, or did they also develop it?
15/01/2018 @ 21:00:37: dsl: Model Origin changes
For comparison - the Nash/Austin Metropolitan. Project/concept designed in Detroit, then hawked round to various European manufacturers for construction, contract awarded to Austin in UK who productionised it with Austin's own oily bits, and then shipped them to US as the sole original market (although later started selling elsewhere as well).
So origin US, made in UK, made for US - a system everyone's always apparently been happy with, and has been used successfully cross the various different names (Nash/Hudson/Austin and plain Metropolitan).

[The Buddy] is made in Taiwan and was an existing product [...]. According to McCaleb, Genuine made modifications, renamed it and started a new life for it in America.
Reading this twice, and with dsl's example in mind, that sounds more like
Model origin Taiwan — Made for USA, in fact. If everybody is Ok with it, is it worth an automatic change (13 scooters are concerned), or do I make it manually?
17/01/2018 @ 09:33:21: antp: Model Origin changes
For 13 it is quickly done manually (and if you don't, I'll do it manually :D)
21/01/2018 @ 17:16:23: eLMeR: Model Origin changes
Done!
For 13 it is quickly done manually [...]
I know, but as lazy guy, I had to see if an automatic solution was possible before starting the manual editing
21/01/2018 @ 20:29:28: antp: Model Origin changes
I get it, but as I'm lazy to open the session and type the SQL query, the automatic solution in such case is often just me doing it if it does not take more time to do it one by one (using keyboard shortcuts, it is quick)
21/01/2018 @ 21:17:14: eLMeR: Model Origin changes
I never noticed that there were shortcuts in the IMCDb. Thanks for the tip.
22/01/2018 @ 18:32:32: antp: Model Origin changes
I thought I posted that somewhere else in a recent discussion
Alt+(Shift)+letter:
S to send a message (works also on the forum) or save fields when editing
E to edit a vehicle/movie
U to upload a picture
A to add a vehicle
these three work also on the page showing links after you saved changes
on that page, after the save, you also have G to go to vehicle page and M to go to movie page
T to go to the title search box in the top right corner
On the vehicle edit pages there are letters for each field
25/01/2018 @ 09:14:30: eLMeR: Model Origin changes
[S] save fields when editing
"Enter" works too
E to edit a vehicle/movie [...]
For admins only, I hope
T to go to the title search box in the top right corner[...]
I made my own tools, for the search engines
On the vehicle edit pages there are letters for each field
... and all IMCDb admins ended up with a finger arthrosis
Jokes aside, maybe these shortcuts should be visible in the
Tools & techniques that may help? thread?
25/01/2018 @ 18:49:19: antp: Model Origin changes
"Enter" works too
Not on drop-down lists
(at least in Firefox)
For admins only, I hope
For those that have the links available, of course (the shortcut is just an accesskey proprety on the links)
So also for contributors: they can edit a vehicle not yet validated.
Indeed I could add some info there
23/02/2018 @ 19:14:06: night cub: Model Origin changes
I noticed that UK does not come up automatically for Austin-Healeys. Are there any that aren't origin UK?
23/02/2018 @ 21:30:50: antp: Model Origin changes
Because the rule is set for "Austin Healey".
I suppose that at some point we switched to "Austin-Healey" and since nobody complained until now I didn't notice that I had to change the "default origin" rule for that one
