Subject: Mass change model info thread

I guess there is a reason, maybe not well followed/applied.
Maybe it depends on the markets?

Nobody can answer? Too bad...

Another question (that could lead to a mass renaming?): why is the name of the Mack Mid-Liner trucks spelled Midliner in IMCDb, despite of the way Mack wrote it?
01/04/2015 @ 21:06:04: antp: Mass change model info thread
Because Renault spells it without the dash, and no-one noticed that Mack does it?
Should I change that then?

You know my point of view about it
But what do other people think about it?

All of these Polo IIs: http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_752946-Volkswagen-Polo-Typ-86C-1991.html should be called Typ 862CF, as that was their official name.
06/04/2015 @ 18:24:43: antp: Mass change model info thread
We just use 86C for all mk2 Polo, that's easier and using.
For now, a more precise code (with 2F suffix) for the facelifted version does not have much interest, the year is enough for that.
We take such "shortcuts" with a lot of other VW typ codes.
It prevents errors (like what you did here, typing 862CF instead of 86C2F) and keep them grouped by generation.
We'll probably change that in the next version of the site, as then it will be easier to manage.

The French Wikipedia pages about automotive subjects have been lately messed up by a frenzied good-willing person (named DarkPrinz...) who found "useful" to make separate pages for each model of each generation of each vehicle... Renault Trafic, Master, Scenic, Peugeot Partner, Fiat Ducato and so on, all the previous pages of these vehicles have had a kind of "shower" with some changes about the names, for some, that may not necessarily reflect the policy of their makers. So I think that using these French pages as source could be an hazardous idea for the next weeks, until some "cleaning of the cleaning" (or at least a check of all of what was changed) has been made.

For the record, the Vivaro 1st gen. is known as Vivaro A in the English pages, and the same name is used in the German ones.
Couldn't this be a better choice for the name?
24/04/2015 @ 23:16:00: antp: Mass change model info thread
well if you enter 1 in the mk field it is displayed as A for Opel anyway
25/04/2015 @ 01:20:53: eLMeR: Mass change model info thread
I think the purpose of JB007 was to suggest a mass renaming before a Vivaro B appears in a TV-Series or a movie, not to do a one-by-one change

Sure, but anyway in the database it means setting the "vehicle_mk" field to the value 1, so it is still correct

Hello guys,
after posting a lot of comments in the database, I was told to post my suggestions here. Many German WW2 military vehicles are not listed correctly, and sometimes one model is listed with different names, designations etc.

The main problem are the "Sd.Kfz." numbers. This short term means "Special Vehicle", and every tank, half-track or any other special military vehicle used by the Wehrmacht had one assigned number.
However, these numbers were internal army designations, and for most tanks for example, they are not important.
But when it comes to the many similar-looking, but still different halftracks and armoured cars, these numbers should be put as extra info, since the model designation (e.g. "leichter Panzerspähwagen") is used on different models.

So, here's my first suggestion:

The Sd.Kfz.251 was built on a chassis developed by the Hanomag company. Many different companies built different bodystyles, but the technical aspects are still Hanomag - but many of them are listed as "Weserhütte", for unknown reasons.

Changing the names is rather complicated, so it has to be done in several steps:

1) All of the following vehicles have to be renamed to:

Hanomag H kl 6p

http://imcdb.org/vehicles.php?resultsStyle=asImages&yearFrom=&yearTo=&makeMatch=- 2&make=&modelMatch=1&model=Sd.Kfz.251&modelInclModel=on&modelInclChassis=on&mk=&origin=- &madein=&madefor=&role=

2) Now, the extra info and year should be modified according to the different versions:

Thanks, I'll check that later
29/05/2015 @ 10:33:01: robi: Mass change model info thread
Okay, here are some more changes:

The halftrack Sd.Kfz.250 was the little brother of the Sd.Kfz.251 mentioned above. It was not built by Hanomag, but by DEMAG of Duisburg.
While searching if DEMAG should be written in capital letters or not, I found out the exact meaning of the name:
DEMAG = Deutsche Maschinenbau-Aktiengesellschaft (German Engineering Corporation). We also write FAMO and most DEMAG vehicles in capital letters, so the first step will be renaming all "Demag" vehicles to "DEMAG".
http://imcdb.org/vehicles.php?resultsStyle=asImages&yearFrom=&yearTo=&makeMatch=- 2&make=Demag&modelMatch=1&model=&modelInclModel=on&modelInclChassis=on&mk=&origin=- &madein=&madefor=&role=&page=1

Looking at the Hanomag company, their name is similar, meaning "Engineering Corporation of Hannover" in English. Therefore, it might be the best to change all "Hanomag" to "HANOMAG", since I couldn't find any HANOMAG writing with small letters anywhere.
http://imcdb.org/vehicles.php?resultsStyle=asImages&yearFrom=&yearTo=&makeMatch=- 2&make=Hanomag&modelMatch=1&model=&modelInclModel=on&modelInclChassis=on&mk=&origin=- &madein=&madefor=&role=

But now, here are some changes for the Sd.Kfz.250 and Sd.Kfz.10/11:

1) Both halftracks share the same chassis, so the model name is known. Nearly all of them are listed as either "Typ D 7" or "Typ D 7 p". I suggest to drop the "Typ" in the model name, since mostly only online model car shops use it, but no pages related to military vehicles.
The right name for the vehicles in the following links would be "Typ D 7" or "Typ D 7 p":
http://imcdb.org/vehicles_make-DEMAG_model-Typ+D+7.html

2) Like all German military vehicles, they built a lot of different versions, some of them are just different in details. In order to avoid confusion, I will first only list the different versions of the Sd.Kfz.250, while the Sd.Kfz.10 will be done in another post.
To make it as complete as possible, I'll post every info field that needs to be changed for the different groups of vehicles (I don't include the Demag/DEMAG change if the model name is already okay)

A minor change for five vehicles only:

All the tanks in the following link should get the Roman "I" instead of the Arabic "1" in their name.

All these changes are quite annoying to do... Not so much can be automated.
One of the reasons why I am against all these old documentaries, is that then we have all that old crap vehicles to rename several times with names in German very complicated to enter.
I changed those that could be automated, what's left is those for which you posted direct vehicle links, I'll do these later, or else someone else can have fun doing the changes in the meantime
