What about the 2008 and those without year? They are different?
14/05/2024 @ 17:55:36: dsl: Mass change model info thread
I'm not expert on these - just using the
wiki page. The 2008s can become 2009 for MY - launch was Oct 2008. Non-years I'll try and do something with, but no great expectations. The key visible difference between plain and T seems to be exhausts - plain had twin vertical stacks, T two horizontal sets. Other differences variable - eg wheel styles with various options, rather than a single sequence.

Updated, the "M" can be added to the chassis code if the non-year models are listed as T later
I also changed the few coupés to convertible (since all have a retractable hardtop, if I understood correctly)

Thanks. I'll try to find more info to see if I can improve any IDs, particularly non-years.

antp do you care/anyone else if I start adding MK2 to the Vauxhall Omega? Right now they do not have any MK.
For the smaller Vauxhall Nova/Opel Corsa A we have all the Nova listed as MK1. Then the Vauxhall/Opel Corsa B we have MK2 repectively.
I am going to go through them and wanted to ask before I just start changing the way we list them and if antp could possibly wave his wand and add MK2 to all of them to make it easier
17/05/2024 @ 14:31:36: Lateef: Mass change model info thread
There's no need for a Mk for the Vauxhall Omega, there was only one generation. Same with the Nova. The Belmont (sedan version of the Astra Mk2) was also only one generation and as such doesn't have a Mk field either.
In addition, it doesn't make any sense to call the Vauxhall Omega the Mk2 as the preceding Omega [A] is the Vauxhall Carlton Mk3. The Vauxhall Carlton Mk1 and Mk2 are known as the Opel Rekord E1 and E2.
17/05/2024 @ 20:09:45: antp: Mass change model info thread
Indeed, even if it matches the second generation of Opel Omega, it is not a second generation Vauxhall Omega, there is no need to differentiate it from something else with the same name.
In the same way, you won't put mk2 on the Cadillac Catera I suppose
18/05/2024 @ 22:24:47: dhill_cb7: Mass change model info thread
Thanks ^ then why does the Nova all have mk1 ?
And the Vauxhall Corsa B has mk2?
18/05/2024 @ 22:47:54: dsl: Mass change model info thread
Because it helps keep us straight for phases when Corsas could be either Vauxhall or Opel - it's easier to have all Corsas of the same underlying generation with the same numbering, rather than out of step. Putting Mk1 on Novas is useful as a marker that something's going on, and hopefully deters folk from inventing Nova Mk2s.
The other issue when pondering Carltons, Rekords, Omegas etc is that we have a system which everyone is used to. If we change established practice (a) it'll usually generate hiccups and (b) it should be to bring actual improvement. "Different" does not necessarily mean "better" in these scenarios.

Thank you for the enlightenment everyone. Much appreciated

I updated the 3 Lotus Carlton we had to reflect their Vauxhall counterparts: origin germany and made for GB. No reason for GB origin when the underpinnings are German.
13/06/2024 @ 17:27:59: dsl: Mass change model info thread
Slightly uneasy about that - Lotus did much of the heavy lifting on both twins. Either origin UK for both, or perhaps as a compromise origin D, made in UK and made for whichever market applies.
13/06/2024 @ 20:48:17: dhill_cb7: Mass change model info thread
Whatever we decide we should at least place a comment on the 4 pages as to why the origin is either UK or D. That way future users will know why they differ or are listed the same as their Vauxhall/Opel counterparts.
@antp do you have any preference? I am fine fixing the 3 Vauxhall and 1 Opel we have listed to match whatever we decide then place a comment on each page.

The modifications that Lotus did where made in UK I suppose?
I'd agree with an extra "made in UK" as dsl suggests, keeping the D origin.
