I was wondering if it would be a good idea to keep a list somewhere on the site for Movies which have been viewed by contributors ...which do NOT have any cars/vehicles in them.!
I say this because ..I've watched some films ..expecting to see cars... but there are none at all.! (... wondering after if other contributors have watched these films also ...finding the same thing.!!) ..It might help to know ... what has been seen/checked already and found to have No vehicles.?
What does everyone think.?

Bôf... Si tu veux, j'ai le DVD de "La Guerre de Feu" en version française... :2501:

We could list them on the site but with just a comment "no vehicle in this movie"... Thought that would be a little strange. Or I could add a flag "does not contain any car", so these movie could be listed separately. But then it would be useless (as you would not find it by searching "normal" movies).
And what about a movie that has only background cars, but that none is interesting enough to be listed? It could not be listed as "does not contain cars".

I have been thinking this same situation before. Some of the "film noir" movies I've watched were filmed almost entirely in studios so there were absolutely no cars at all

If we had some sort of list of non-car movies it could save our time.

..Yes ..that was my idea.! I was thinking how many of us have watched the same movie to find No cars in it.! :ohwell:

But with movies set in a period before cars (except films like Back to the Future Part III and Army of Darkness, I'm talking about realistic dramas) it should be obvious. Very, very few western films set in a period within the last century are car-free, even films where characters are in a wilderness often have them either leaving civilization or re-entering it at the end. Basically the majority of films on this site are made in the developed world and set in civilisation, or have characters that come from civilisation (and cars are very much part of modern civilisation). Unless of course they are pre-20th century period films or space-set sci-fi films (and even some of them have land vehicles in them, at first I didn't realize Aliens would have anything in it. So it ought to obivious to most people what films won't have cars in them, with some exceptions (like Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Aliens).

The best thing to do would be to make a list of films where one might think there's a chance of cars appearing but there aren't (like Mary Poppins or something), and leave out all the historical films like Gladiator and Braveheart and the fantasy films like the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

It seems to be a good idea.

I hope you don't watch movies just to see cars, there's so much more to cinema than that (except for things like Fast and the Furious).

But if we list films like "The Ten Commandments" or "Ben-Hur" with "does not contain any car" tags, we're going to look silly.

I was going to say exact same thing - Ben-Hur was first movie, that came on my mind  - No cars, but some fast chariots

There could be thousands of movies without cars, are you really want to list those on a site that specialices in cars in movies??
18/07/2006 @ 07:27:31: Bebert: Movies Without Cars.!

DIEHARD >> are there so many movies that are set between 1900 and now, and that do not feature any interesting car?

Bebert >> Le problème c'est qu'il faut pouvoir tomber dessus lors d'une recherche. Si on doit chercher à deux endroits différents c'est pas très pratique...

DIEHARD >> are there so many movies that are set between 1900 and now, and that do not feature any interesting car?

Sadly, there are too many

I think every movie should have at least a dozen well worth mentioning cars....

No, but on a more serious note, there really are, what about movies that play in Airplanes or in U boats or in deserted areas or inside an office?

It truly doesn't matter to me if you want to list them, I'll keep coming to this site anyway
But the paradox strikes me, you have a site about cars in movies and you are listing movies without cars.....if you would like to have more work and more use of diskspace, why no include more background cars...?

But maybe I am just wining, so feel free to do whatever you like...
19/07/2006 @ 00:17:43: antp: Movies Without Cars.!
A background car picture = 10 to 50 KB, visible in the listings of the cars of the make/model
A movie entry = 0.050 KB, visible only on a search on some word contained in the title
That's a huge difference
19/07/2006 @ 19:17:40: wickey: Movies Without Cars.!
personally I find the whole thing pointless  - so if we will vote, I will be for "no"

..Not all the time.! (..I never used too ..but since joining the IMCDB ... I have watched /taped films ..I would not have looked at previously.!) ..but maybe a good thing ..broadening my film experiences.?
(I used to only watch TV cop/action shows & lots of Horror/sci-fi films.!)
