Police chases
Published 30/10/2007 @ 23:40:33, By Ddey65
We have police chases in Britain just like in America and we also show them on police chase TV shows (though I've never seen a big chase being broadcast live like you sometimes get on American TV). Some of our own traffic police TV shows are more like documentaries rather than sheer sensationalist entertainment shows like in America, there is no one like Sheriff John Bunnell in Britain. Some of the chase shows shown on our TV are compilations of chases from America, Britain and other countries, and we still have "The World's Wildest Police Videos" and other US chase shows on our channels.

And shows like that do feature chases from your country, as well as others. Not just from the USA. And yes, they tend to be exploitive. I remember an episode where some guy stole a U-Haul truck. The thing was a Ford Econoline E-350 cutaway van, but Bunnell's narration was like "The driver thinks he's tough with his big rig..."

:heink: BIG RIG!?! If that's a "big rig," then my P.O.S. Toyota Corolla is a god-damn LUXURY LIMOUSINE!!

But getting back to the subject, I haven't really seen that many in my life that I recall. When I was a kid on the school bus, I saw two cars trying to run each other off the road, and Suffolk County PD was chasing them. Another time, I saw eight SCPD cars pulling one car thief over across the street from my house.

The other night I was going to bed (late as usual) and I was watching TV for a few minutes (as I do before I try to get some sleep) and there was this show hosted by Sheriff John Bunnell about cars getting hit by trains. There were lots of clips of vehicles (including big lorries) stuck on railway tracks getting ploughed into by big freight trains (American locomotives are all big blocky things). I mean what are the odds of your car just happening to stop over tracks? And doesn't it occur to anyone to get out and push? And then they showed clips of people trying to race over the crossing instead of stopping and waiting for the train to pass, only missing being hit by a second or two. Bunnell said that roughly 400 people a year in America die through trying this kind of thing, I mean even though that's a tiny percentage of the population, it still sounds like a lot!

People do not seem to realize the danger of these crossing I guess.
That's probably the reason why these nearly all disappeared in Belgium (and France I suppose), replaced by bridges or tunnels.
Also probably because a road crossing for TVG trains is out of question

I've seen a car chase with a police car in 1989 in Rome - along the Colosseo and both cars, the escaping and the police car, too, were Alfa Giulia Nuova's!

My wife's brother is a police-officer close to Berlin. They are really learning, how to make a car chase. There are training-areas, owned by the police, for that lessons. Usually they take old, outcasted police-cars for that.

My brother-in-law sometimes works as an instructor over there. His personal special is "How to get a renitent person out of the car" - out of the windscreen. His remark: "I got all freaks out. Every time".

Ford_Guy might like this one (CCF may like it too)

A nice police chase through a city; the runner is driving the big silver Buick LeSabre. Toward the end of the chase (which is my favorite part  ) an unmarked U222 Ford Expedition SSV runs the Buick down and rams it ...

Hard to say, the LeSabre is front wheel drive, and the suspect turned to the right (to avoid hitting the Ford Aerostar van on the left) and the right tire & wheel assembly of the Buick snagged on the on the pickup truck to the right (which was a Ford F-Series) The Buick was just too big to fit thru both vehicles.

That was nice. Took him out hard and clean. And you have to love "the swarm" towards the end.

By the way, the department in pursuit was the Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff's Department. Phoenix is in Maricopa County.

There's police chases in Los Angeles alone everyday. Or are you referring to a specific televised one?

It was probably televised. I just heard of one recently from some kids at school. The last one I remember in the area was with The Nissan Titan that crashed on I think Highway 39.

Sorry MBSL65fan, I can't recall having watched that one. The last chase I can recall watching was the one that ended with a standoff in Irwindale. I haven't been paying much attention to the news lately. I've just had about enough with hearing about politics and Britney. The only thing I've been paying attention to has been that deadly standoff in the San Fernando Valley that ended with 5 people dead, including the LAPD SWAT officer. I'm watching his funeral right now on TV.

Badlymad, that was a fake police chase. It was part of a promo for a video game. Did you notice how empty the streets were?

Me too. Politics can wait and who give a crap about Britney? The media is only focusing on celebrities these days and why do we care? :oh:
