Anyway sedans became rare long ago, hatchbacks are more usual from survived ones.

Interesting, I thought that those AFI plates weren't more used now and replaced with Italian plates.

Just for curiosity, the plate you've have seen also included the tag "Official" like here at 0:47?
http://aviano.afneurope.net/Home/ArticleDisplayDD/tabid/1326/Default.aspx?aid=25- 590

No, it didn't have anything like that. Just said AFI. It was very unusual to see.

On July 4, I was driving on the Pennsylvania Turnpike en route to Pittsburgh (in my Cougar) and saw a 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu coupe with a Norwegian license plate. It had some kind of logo on the door, with the number 54 and a bunch of flags. I also saw a 1957 Mercury convertible and a 1959 Cadillac convertible with the same logo in Breezewood, but didn't see their plates.

Now that I finally look them up, they were cars from this group, on their cross-country trip the Lincoln Highway Centennial Tour: https://www.facebook.com/lh2013?directed_target_id=0

And this was the Malibu I saw: https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/q85/s720x720/998523_557849200928473_560516377_n.jpg

I think that Lupo from a few pages back is a 3L as it has a covered grill. Not sold here, but unsure if it was common elsewhere.

Great Western Road, just past Anniesland. The white building used to be a Homebase DIY warehouse. Have seen DSU 353G occasionally over the years - it's a Glasgow plate - and it's well known amongst Scottish Impers as a modified Super Imp eg http://www.imps4ever.info/cars/hillman/imp_sport/dsu_353g/dsu_353g.html . Glad that you had such an epic encounter to round off the day.

One hour go I wrote an email to the Edinburgh Police, because when I made these two pics on Saturday afternoon, we'd been in a hurry (to pick up our reserved Runrig-tickets for the evening, plus a visit of my wife's second-favourite jewellery store on the Royal Mile), I haven't called the police then. It was so crowded, that I couldn't make pics from the front and from the driver (it was LHD).
But I wrote to the police (on my question for a driect email-addresse to send the photos I got an answer within 5 minutes), that due the CCTV-suveillance of the UK I'm sure, that they will catch him sooner or later.

P.S.My plate-fellows just have said, that this may be an authentic UK registration, but well, it's anyways an extreme asshole-ish impertinence, such a plate. Shall the cops make the DVLA-check and maybe -hopefully- teach the owner, what a shit such plates are. And as I've learned, they are not legal in the UK either.

Is the crime the German font for the license plate? Poor fellow. He's got the Bundeswappen and everything.

@chicomarx: the rules in GB may be different, but yes, in Germany it's a crime -and not just a slight one!- to use faked plates, especially with faked seals in the public traffic. It's a clear "falsification of documents" and the penalty for that is really heavy.

Even putting a little sticker on the plate (some people have stickers from their football team in the Euro-star on the left blue stripe) is a crime over here.

P.S.The Bundeswappen -to fake it, is a crime, too- has nothing to do on license plates (except on Bundeswehr-plates)

As the registration itself is valid I suspect he's just trying to Germanify his VW, but punish him if you must.
In fact doesn't jettalover also have German plates on his Jetta in California, mounted underneath the American plates...

Yes, other US-owners of German cars does have that, too (I'm just busy to look for plates for tonkatracker for that purpose, too), also Japanese. But there it's different, because it's allowed there.

The biggest problem for UK is that rear plate should be yellow reflective. Not sure about legality of font and the added logos, but they may not be a big issue. Crunch point may come each year for the MOT test, which includes number plate format - so the owner would have to fit proper plates to pass the test.

Neither I've touched the Clarkson-DVD in our cottage, not I've purchased his autobiography in a charity-shop, but unwillingly I've made pics of some TG-related cars :ohwell: (on the quai in Ijmuiden/NL):

All these pics were made at the same location, the parking of the CO-OP-store in Dunoon:

While the Vectra got some scratches

http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/1543/yx1e.th.jpg

and

http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/2175/c1fc.th.jpg http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/6914/qml3.th.jpg

were parking in the line behind.

About the JDM-Camper I was really surprised, but Sandie told me later on, that they are quite common in the UK. I've spotted also some more of them.

Nice plate

The car is odd too. It is a Bora Estate, which we only got sold as a Golf with the Golf front end. Did Germany get both of these (which would be pointless), or did they not get the Golf version?

I vaguely recall that we've had some Honda Stream chat a couple of times recently. They were sold here but I've never seen a facelift one like this before:

I saw a BMW 3.0S [E3] on Friday (I could see the 3.0S badge quite clearly). Very handsome little machine. He had a Nixon/Agnew (winners of presidential elections in 1968 and 1972) bumper sticker in the rear window; probably a modern reproduction but certainly a nice touch.
