Corvette Museum Sinkhole
Published 13/02/2014 @ 04:18:45, By DM-491
At about 5:30 AM today, a massive sinkhole opened up inside the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. 8 cars fell in. Five are a total loss, while three are considered salvageable. The cars that fell in are: 1962 Corvette, 1984 Corvette Pace Car, a 1993 40th Anniversary Edition C4, the 1 millionth Corvette built (a 1994 C4), the 1.5 millionth Corvette built (a 2009 C6), a 2009 ZR1, a 1993 ZR1 Spyder, and a 2001 Z06. I visited this museum and the Corvette factory a few years ago and I distinctly remember the room that it occurred in. A very sad day in the automotive world today. I was sick when I read it and I still am. Video is available at motortrend.com.

I saw this on the news. I'm not really the biggest Corvette fan in the world, but that is just too depressing.

"One car in the Skydome that was not damaged was the only remaining 1983 Corvette, which has reportedly been removed from the Skydome"

Like Ddey65, I'm not a Corvette fan (but don't hesitate to offer me a '62 model... ), but I'm always surprised by the infrequency of some cars.

Indeed, that's surprising.
That's fortunate that it was not damaged.

There was no 1983 Corvette. The last of the C3 models was 1982, and the C4 started with the 1984 model year.

And while GM is pledging to rebuild the damaged Corvettes, Chrysler is destroying 93 pre-production Vipers that were donated to trade schools for educational purposes. Apparently two of them were driven on the road and crashed, lawsuits followed, and now Chrysler is getting rid of all of them,, including #004, and a rare pre-production coupe prototype. Boo!!

Strange they couldn't donate them in a way that they would be excluded from any liability

Said in the Hemmings blog:
"As with the other Corvettes recovered, the plan is still to have General Motors rebuild the car, though with this much damage, it’s anyone’s guess as to how many original parts can be saved."
May the Force be with you, guys:
The pancake they found // the car it was...
Not sure it would have been recognized by someone of the IMCDb creww, in its new state
