Thread for pics from car meetings, car shows and such events
Published 10/05/2015 @ 22:35:32, By ingo
As it seems, we don't have a thread for this topic, so although I'm not a fan of the cluttering the forum up with always new threads, I think we have a usage for it. The "cars in museums"-thread does not fit and in "car sightings" there are too many pics, also too many not really good pics.

Today I had been at even three events, all in the area. At first at a flea-market for motorbike-parts. I don't have an interest in motorbikes, but it was on the way to a youngtimer*- and tuning-car show and I wanted to look there for plate-catches (photo-motifs and maybe something to buy). After the car-show I stopped at a small classic car show in the next town. Quite small and not too interesting, but on may way home.

I put all the pics of these events in here, also some random catches on the way to and from them.

Why both the Panda and the Cinquecento have microcar plates? The Panda is even a 1000cc that is a rather brilliant engine

Why both the Panda and the Cinquecento have microcar plates? The Panda is even a 1000cc that is a rather brilliant engine

Because the engines are curbed. Nowadays these engine are curbed on this EU-wide microcar-class with Vmax 45 km/h. I don't know, what's the most possible ccm for them. For mopeds, having these plates, it's 50ccm

These tiny plates are used in Germany for
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_Germany#Insurance_pla- tes
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kfz-Kennzeichen_29#Versicherungskennzeichen

So the 1000ccm-engine is not in original condition/usage any more.

In the past there was the possibility for people, who made a moped-license before 1950, to drive any kind of vehicles up to 250ccm. But these cars and motorbikes had regular plates.
This regulation was one of the reasons, why all the 1950ies microcars in Germany were available with 250ccm.

The last original 250ccm-car was the Goggomobil, produced for that reason even until 1969. After its production was stopped, the assembling of the Goggo-engine continued! The production-"line" (a dozen of old workers and their handcraftsmanship) was moved from the former Glas- and now BMW-factory in Dingolfing to the former Borgward-factory in Bremen. In the edge of an otherwise empty plant-hall they made these 250ccm-engines especially for these old license-holders up to the 80ies. When Mercedes Benz needed the space for the production of the 190 [W201], these old Goggo-workers were sent into retirement.

Thes 250ccm-"big block"-engines were mounted mostly into the NSU Prinz 4 and Fiat/Jagst 600, later mainly into Fiat 500, 126 and Panda.

The downsizing to 250ccm was not only made by using Goggo-engines, also by dropping the engine-size, for example due blocking two pistons. This was usual at the curbed Fiats (127, Panda, Uno, Lancia Y10). In the 80ies mostly Fiats were used, some tiny Japanese cars as the Daihatsu Cuore only a few times.

My last impression of these vehicles, resp.their drivers was: "Not a winners car for the brightest candle on the birthday-cake".
I had the driver of

before me at the bakerman minutes before I made this pic. It's maybe arrogant, but not lied, when I say, this was the village-idiot. Definitely not intelligent, but odoriferous (the hair not washed since weeks, the former plumbers-working jacket never ever washed).

My guess is that owner of the two Fiats have not the licence for regular cars, but they wanted a slighty better car than usual microcars such Lieger, Aixam, Grecav, etc. So they preferred to limitate or swap the original engines for make them legal like the ones mounted on the microcars

As a frequent attendee of the local Thursday night car show at a local Hardee's in Weeki Wachee, Florida, I see my share of interesting cars, trucks, motorcycles and other vehicles. Besides your standard mid-50's Chevy's, late-1960's muscle cars, and what not, something really interesting turned up a couple of weeks ago; a yellow and white 1959 Dodge Custom Royal convertible. I've got more pictures than this.

Model names, bigger versions of the pictures and other viewpoints for some of the cars can be seen here. I'll try to upload the other pictures this week (more or less 30 pictures for 10 other cars).

Only some small impressions from my visit to a US Car Show in a Western city. The buildings have a real interior, but only the front is wood, the rest is concrete.

This Crown Victoria had a real taxameter, but its not in use as a Taxi anymore. In the state of Saxony where it was registered, this color is not allowed for real Taxis.

We also made Car Konvoi. This is highly illegal in Germany, but we got a rare permission by the local authority. Two police cars accompanied us and the roads were closed just for us. It was truly amazing because i felt like the King of the Road. An american police car was even allowed to drive on the roads with lights and sirens, which was even more awesome.

Quite unusual sight in europe, but the Mustang is capable of hauling trailers. Maybe that gives the original impression of what Ford has planned the Mustang for: The common driving, not the Race track!

Err, no: a convoi is only illegal here, when there are more than 29 cars in line. In a convoi -with permission and police-escort- the whole convoi is seen as one single verhicle, so it's allowed to follow the first car over red traffic lights.
When you have more than 29 cars, you need the permission - or you tell the cops, when they stop you: "no idea, why they all follow me, what a funny coincidence", or the cars start separated in smaller groups. Of course you drive as single cars, so each one for himself.

Very odd combination: a legendary US-American icon, towing a Trabant- and Zapohorhets-compatible Campingtrailer made in DDR ( http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/QEK_Junior )

Yesterday I had a great day at my favourite car-event in the year at http://oldtimermarkt-bockhorn.com/

I followed this traumatising cl82-car to catch a pic of the "Rootes Group Owners Club"-sticker in the richt back side window, but unfortunately it drove on the area at the most crowded time and didn't find a parking lot.

And I was also distracted by the exhaust-cloud from this motif:

which had problems to leave its parking-lot.

There was a German couple, who offered 7 or 8 Portuguese classics, for example that one:

Until ca.10 years ago it was possible to get a truck-registration for a Wagon, Van or SUV, when the back side windows are irreversible closed, the back seats are irrversibliby removed and there was a load capacity for a specific minimum weight. One of the last remainders:

 Not only a 131 Racing, but an extremely rare Walter Rohrl edition almost all original!

I hoped to see one in a German meeting... An early model with automatic transimission all original, including the (rather) rare front bumper. Just the wheels need a refresh as they miss the black part (I have 10/12 of them)

As far I know it was made on VW Golf chassis, it's extremely rare an almost unknown also here

I really like this meeting/spare parts market, I remember your pics of the previous year too... Too bad it's rather far, but not impossible to reach... Let's see next year

In my plate-collector-forum recently a Western-cars-in-the-DDR-specialist has posted a pic of a white Ritmo, delivered in 1979 directly into the DDR.
This DDR-owned company
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genex
which delivered goods to DDR-citizens, after their West German relatives have paid them in Western money, had good relations to Fiat over all years. So Fiats you could find in every yearly catalogue.

Yes, the Biagini Passo is based on the Golf Cabriolet. Wiki says, that only a few of them were built and only for the West German market. Due the poor quality, especially the missing anti-rust-protection, the cars extinct very quickly.

Yes, this event is my most favourite car-event over the years. It's a combination of spare-parts-market with a classic car meeting (on Saturday drivers with pre-1980 have free entry, on Sunday drivers with pre-1989-cars). The atmosphere is the best, nice relaxed people incl.some freaks among them, good weather -mainly...- and a nice location on the countryside.
You're correct, it's very far away for you. Maybe you have looked on the map. It's in the farest Northwest of Germany, c.30km to the North Sea Coaast and ca.60km to the Dutch part of Frisia.

It would be amazing to see that picture, but I suppose it's too 'private'

The Passo had the body of the Golf Cabriolet but the mechanic of the Golf Syncro (because is a 4x4), Wiki is not correct because it was sold also here: not officially but some dealership took several units. Obviusly the ones sold now are almost all gone, but apparently some of them survived. Looking on the web, seems it was assembled by ACM a factory that assembled under licence also Romanian ARO off roads for the Italian market (although original ARO were sold too). I've found also a (sort of) brochure:

And one for sale:
