I found Lucerne stupid, same name as a milk company.
They should have germanize it: Luzern sounds much sharper.

Mitsubishi Pajero (= masturbation, in Spanish)
Actually 'pajero' is he who masturbates, but the sense is the same.
However, in several markets Mitsu labeled it as 'Montero'.
Other funny names that just pop in (I do not mention manufacturer so it has more effect):
- Picanto
- Opirus
- Tribeca
- Cappuccino
- Equus
I guess they also need some advice ...

lol, I do like Plymouth Voyager's Expresso trim level and the Cappuccino name is interesting.

I don't see anything wrong with Tribeca, it's a neighborhood in New York City.

Chevrolet Captiva, I'm sure the people at GM thought it make people think it was captivating but personsly it makes me think of being held captive. Its not the worst ofender but it was what came to mind when i read the topic title.

In the UK, it's the Shogun, no doubt because we ignorant Brits can't pronounce Pajero correctly.

Cappuccino, i think, goes well with the car. It's a little city car for people who drink it often

what's the problem with 'Cappuccino'?
To any Italian I'd mention it they would answer it sounds extremely funny and un-creative.
Imagine a car named after a meal or drink which may sound good in a foreign language but would crack you up in your native tongue ...

I like the advertisement of the Cappuccino in Holland. At first they were only RHD, the slogan was:
Cappuccino, en het stuur zit Expresso.
Which means: Cappuccino, the steering wheel is on the right on purpose...

Ford Ka (owners call it the K-A everyone else calls it the Kkkah (as in cack, which is British slang for crap))
Reliant Kitten
Volkswagen Rabbit (the US name for the Golf, the Yanks want this car to look even more puny alongside their mighty Broncos and Mustangs)
Volkswagen Bora (the UK name for the Jetta, sounds very close to Boring)
Nissan/Datsun Sunny
Nissan/Datsun Cherry
Vauxhall Sintra (this was a rebadged Chevy Venture, but Sintra sounds too much like Sinatra)
Austin Maestro (suggests great symphonies when in fact all you're getting is a very drab piece of British Leyland junk)
Just about any Daewoo model
Citroen Jumpy?
A lot of modern car names are gibberish. Vectra, does that actually mean anything? I think with Vauxhalls they just find names that end in an A. Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Saab sensibly avoid stupid model names by using numbering systems. It's funny how cheap, small run-of-the-mill cars have cheerful and dynamic sounding names (Kia Pride, Suzuki Swift) to disguise their crappyness.

I'm not sure Rabbit is any worse than Golf. Rabbit conveys the idea of a sprightly, energetic, and nimble car. Golf is nothing more than a dull game (that I'm rubbish at, of course - I won't deny some bias). The only connection that I can possibly see is the golf-ball shifter in the GTI.

Actually the name "Golf" does not come from the ball game, cf this info from Wikipedia:
But I agree that the name is not very good.
Names like Scirocco are better, but then the problem is that people never write it correctly...

The name is short for Golf-Strom, German for Gulf Stream; it was named for that oceanic current to reflect its international character. It was called the Rabbit in North America and the Caribe in Latin America.
But I agree that the name is not very good.

Rabbit also conveys the idea of a weak, timid creature that is vulnerable to predators.
Golf isn't such a bad name, and then there's the Polo which is also a gentrified ball game.

For those who hate the name 'LaCrosse', in Canada, it is Buick Allure.

Allure isn't any better, just not inappropriate in Quebec.
